Our Constitution sets out the reasons why this association has been established:
“The objects of the Association shall be to improve the quality of life for present and future residents of the Area by promoting a sense of community and by action to conserve, protect and improve the character of the Area.“
In November 2012, a group of some 30 local people met at the Oasis centre in Baker Street and agreed that it would be a good idea to form a “Neighbourhood Association” – such groups have been successful in other parts of Reading, and have made improvements to their local areas. So this group was created, and developed plans for a programme of events in 2013 and beyond with the aim of improving life for those of us who live, work or own property in the Baker Street area. This initiative has the full support of Reading Borough council.
“Improving life” can mean a number of things: developing a sense of community, keeping the streets tidy, getting to know your neighbours, welcoming newcomers to the area, and so on. Ideas are very welcome.
